What is Corten Steel made of?

Corten steel is a steel alloy initially developed by the US Steel Corporation in 1933. The name corten refers to the two main properties of the steel: corrosion resistance and tensile strength. For landscaping purposes, the primary benefit is in the corrosion resistance.

There are several grades of corten steel, which are distinguished by variance in their chemical compostion. We use grade A606. This alloy is produced by adding small amounts of carbon, silicon, manganese, phosporous, chromium, copper, vanadium, nickel and sulphur to the iron.
